I CAN HAZ DOGGIE

Yesterday I went to the shelter and adopted this mutt. I've named her Goose, to go with Poopmonster's "official" name of Maverick. Today I picked her up after she saw a vet and got spayed. She's still a big groggy after being anesthetized for the surgery and has no appetite, so today I've just been letting her rest in the living room. She won't even climb stairs, so I've been picking her up and carrying her up and down to take her on walks. She seems a bit shy, but she wags her tail whenever she sees me, so I take that to be a good start on our relationship.

To be honest, I'm a little anxious about being a good dog parent, because I don't have much experience with dogs and I know they are needier than cats. (Though, that's not an absolute... Poopmonster is one particularly vocal, needy cat.) The shelter told me that she's a Chow-mix of some sort, and I was initially very worried that she would be aggressive towards Poopmonster. Luckily though, they seem to be getting along just fine. According to common consensus, she looks like a Chow-Shepherd mix, probably with some breed of small dog in there too. She's 2 years old and only about 30 pounds, so she's not a very big dog.

Poopmonster is normally terrified of strangers and will hide for days at a time, but she seems to have no issue with hanging out with this dog. For the most part they seem to tolerate each other's presence well, just occasionally sniffing and then ignoring each other. I'm just glad they get along. Initially I was planning to adopt another cat to be Poopmonster's friend, but I couldn't help but fall in love with this dog....

  1. Oh my god! Goose is so precious! I'm glad the two get along. I brought a bunny home one time to bond with my other bunny (her nickname is coincidently "goosey") and my bunny tried to kill the poor thing. She didn't actually Hirt it but she spent days growling at this poor rabbit until I took it back to the shelter. I didn't even know bunnies could growl. I've since learned that the only companion my bunny needs is my boyfriend. I think she thinks she's a human and not a rabbit!
