Arts and crafts time!

Feeling creative and more than a little bored recently, so I've been putting my excess energy to work.

Denis and I have a running joke about the shirt Steve Perry wears in the Separate Ways music video:

So since he was coming home over the 4th of July long weekend, I made this for him using a duct tape sheet to make 2 stencils and hot pink fabric paint:

The first couple of squares are a little blotchy, but I cleaned up the lines with some isopropyl alcohol and scrubbing at it with my nail.

Then, I got a hold of some spray paint and decided to prettify my makeup brushes. I hate having a mismatched set of brushes and I wanted a more unique, unified look to them:

I wrapped the ferrules and brush heads with saran wrap and tape to keep the spray paint from getting on them. As you see, I still missed a small part on the ferrule my big blush brush... after painting the handles with the spray paint, I sprayed a coat of clear polyurethane gloss on top to keep the color from chipping off and to waterproof it. It took about 2 days to do fully, but I thought it was totally worth it!

In other news, Denis got to come home for a visit! For the 4th of July holiday he hitched a ride part way with some buddies back to ATL (as they were on their way to Pensacola, Florida) and I ended up driving 6 hours through Alabama to pick him up from Jackson, Mississippi. I drove him back to Arkansas on Monday, then stayed 2 nights in Little Rock. I visited the Crater of Diamonds state park on the other side of Arkansas (and am sorry to report that I didn't find any diamonds) and saw the sights around the city of Little Rock. Last night I drove back to Atlanta from Arkansas through Tennessee. I think I have seen more of the US in the past week than I've seen in the first 25 years of my life! I think I'm done traveling for now... at least until Denis comes back and we drive up to Maryland to visit our parents...

  2. Haha, I LoLed at your shirt joke. Don't u love it when you get super creative at once and take on project after project? The brushes look fantastic, who needs to shell out serious dough for a matching set when you can do it yourself??

Glad Dennis came home for a visit! I hope you guys had a great time =)
